Joy is not something we outgrow; it’s something we unlearn. But the child in us remembers, and if we listen closely, we can hear them laughing us back to life.

Look at those faces.
Pure.
Unfiltered.
Untouched by the weight of this world.
Two little brown babies, locked in a stare-off filled with goofy grins, silly thoughts, and unspoken love. No phones. No pressure. Just the floor beneath them, a few pebbles, and their imaginations running wild.
Somewhere between bills and broken hearts, between trauma and trying to survive, we lost this version of ourselves the playful, fearless, carefree spirits who could find happiness in a rock and laughter in a stare.
What happened to laying on the floor and dreaming?
To making funny faces and not caring who was watching?
To finding friendship without fear, competition, or shame?
It whispers:
“Remember when love was simple?”
“Remember when fun didn’t require money?”
“Remember when connection didn’t come with conditions?”
That bothers me sometimes. That we grow up and forget what being alive really meant before the world told us what to worry about. We forget that this kind of joy still exists, if we’re willing to slow down and tap into it.
Because the world is heavy, but these smiles remind us it wasn’t always that way. And it doesn’t have to stay that way either.
These children? They remind us to be soft again. To laugh with our eyes. To listen with our hearts. To play.
Yes, even now. Especially now
Let’s relearn how to:
- Make space for laughter
- Sit in stillness with someone we love
- Let our inner child out to breathe and run wild
- Stop worrying about the door we’re sitting in front of, and focus on the moment we’re in
So, here’s to the floor moments.
To belly laughs and bubblegum smiles.
To the parts of ourselves we left behind but can still find again.
You owe it to yourself to return to joy. To stare back at life with the same big, curious eyes.
Because that little version of you? They’re still in there just waiting for permission to come out and play.
